Amista Zinfandel Saini Farm-gary's Block Dry Creek Valley 2013

External Review by WineExpress.com:

This is an exciting find. Amista is a family owned boutique winery in Dry Creek Valley in Sonoma, perhaps the best overall region for Zinfandel. In addition to their estate vineyards they source from some other extremely top grade vineyards. This Zinfandel comes from a small vineyard block at Saini Farms, less than a mile down the road from their winery. They have been working with the Saini's since 2005 for their integrity, attention to detail and passion for cultivating fine wine grapes. This 2013 Saini Vineyards Gene’s Block Zinfandel was harvested first thing in the morning by hand. The grapes were sorted once in the vineyard and once in the winery before being destemmed and left whole berry to go into an open top tank. The grapes were cold soaked for 5 days to extract the maximum amount of flavor, then inoculated and fermented on the skins for 12 days. After being gently pressed off the skins, the wine was moved to neutral oak barrels where it completed malolactic and was racked twice in the 18 months before being bottled. They produced less than 600 cases of this dynamite Zin and we managed to get a hold of a very limited quantity. Because we love it when we can share the bounty with our Wine Express customers we're offering this boutique Zin at a deep discount for a limited time. Don't wait!

We dreamed of owning a vineyard and making wine since we first met in 1983. It took us a decade before we'd plant our first vine, and then another six years before we'd find this magnificent vineyard in Sonoma's Dry Creek Valley. Along the way we learned a lot! Most importantly, that wine is a source of endless discovery and rich friendships. Amista translates as "it makes friends" and in our experience creating this winery has been all about friendship. At each step in our journey, we've had friends encouraging, guiding and helping us realize our dream of owning a winery. Their enthusiasm and interest taught us that not only do we take great pleasure in growing grapes and making wine, but that we're invigorated by sharing our experience with others. And so, we've created a winery that welcomes old and new friends alike, to join us in exploring the natural rhythm and splendid beauty of wine country living. Read less
