Amisfield Pinot Noir Central Otago 2008
We ferment the fruit in a range of tanks designed to extract different aspects of Pinot Noir. Our square tanks have been designed for very ripe, concentrated fruit and extracting the weight and depth out of very serious grapes. We use smaller round open topped tanks for expressing aroma and finesse from fruit from lighter soils, reducing total time on skins but still optimising the extraction process. Wherever possible we ferment the grapes with indigenous yeasts, and experiments with whole bunch fermentation and varying lengths of extended skin maceration lend complexity also. The wine is matured in French oak barrels in our temperature & humidity controlled cellar for 12 months before bottling.
Amisfield is a specialist producer of Pinot Noir, aromatic whites and Methode Traditionelle sparkling wines. Located 10 minutes drive from Queenstown, the winery at Lake Hayes features a wine tasting room and country style Bistro serving a daily changing menu of organic and locally sourced produce.

Light and fresh on the nose, with sweet wild red currant tones backed up with herb, spice, and subtle vanilla notes. With air, this just gains focus and freshness while adding a touch of mint and mineral. Elegant in the mouth with real finesse and superb balance, this unfolds in the mouth with a really refined feel that builds on the polished tannins. This is very precise and detailed in the mouth, with bright, vivid wild berry fruit framed by mineral tones that drive the zesty, medium-length finish. Lovely purity and vibrancy. 92pts

The wine is deep ruby in colour with complexity of aroma – berry fruit, violets, mocha and spice. The supple palate showing lush dark fruits overlaying seamless velvety tannins. The finish is long, focused and complex.
