Tasting Note The 2003 effort from Amethyst is a balanced wine, with plenty of concentration in reserve. Hints of refined cassis liqueur, red currant preserves, and black cherry glide across the palate, while undertones of anise and fresh-cut cedar frame the elegant finish. This wine is reminiscent of the finest Bordeaux, and one can tell that the extra care and bottle aging has made a discernible difference in the final product. Fewer than 30 barrels of this special wine were made, so when Mike offered a small amount exclusively to Lot18, we naturally jumped. These wines will not be here long, so be sure to stock up! —Kevin Boyer
This is our third release of Cabernet for Amethyst, and it is by far the most intense in terms of extract and flavor concentration. This was not a deliberate attempt on our part to change the style of the wine rather it is a reflection of what the character of this vintage is. It is our belief that one of the joys of fine wine is that they reflect the differences in the vintage years.
Aged 18 months in French Oak.
