Amarone Della Valpolicella Selezione Antonio Castagnedi. Tenuta Sant'Antonio 2013

External Review:

The 2007 Amarone della Valpolicella Selezione Antonio Castagnedi emerges from the glass with juicy dark cherries, mocha, chocolate, spices and new leather. This is a restrained style of Amarone with moderate structure and body, but excellent overall balance. Anticipated maturity: 2012–2017.

Not a huge fan. Firstly this is very cheap for an Amarone, which had me concerned. Opens with an acidic attack, its very earthy, and much less sweet/concentrated than a real amarone. There's a touch of bitterness followed by a woodsy / medicinal finish.

A lovely wine from every point of view (intensity, integrity, complexity and length), this richly extracted Amarone delivers the very best of Valpolicella tradition. The smooth, velvety mouthfeel is accented by enduring flavors of red fruit, cola and spice.
