Alvear Ximenez Solera 1927

Winemaker's Notes:

"Mid brown colour and more than a hint of rancio on the nose. Good, rich, savoury spine. Polished chestnut look. With masses of lively, raisiny sweetness on the finish. Lots of acidity and very lively. Great race. Treacle toffee essence. Much more complex and drier than Perez Barquero's oldest wine. Drink 2009-2020. (JR)" (05/09) 17.5 out of 20 points, Jancis Robinson's Purple Pages Wine: "100% Pedro Ximenez; this is a naturally sweet wine, of dark dense mahogany colour. It has a deep rich nose reminiscent of prunes and chocolate. On the palate it is a sumptuous wine of great intensity, rich concentrated fruit in the mouth with a full, rich, succulence, seemingly unending finish." - Winery Vinification: "Grapes on their optimum degree of maturity are spread out on mats to dry in the sun until they become raisins. When pressed, they deliver are intensely rich must to which grape alcohol is added to prevent fermentation and loss of sweetness. The "Solera System" for this wine was started in 1927." - Winery This was also scored 87 Points by Wines & Spirits.

Menthol and prune aromas and flavors highlight this intense sweet dessert wine. It exhibits plenty of brightness and complexity ending with butterscotch and bitter chocolate notes. Nicely put together. Drink now. -BS Wine Spectator.
