What to Expect

Grenache is the main grape in many Rhone blends and most Cotes du Rhone and Chateaunuef-du-pape. It's a grape that yields soft, lightly colored yet full wines endowed with deep notes of strawberry and raspberry. While not prone to producing particularly rich or complex wines in France, Grenache is one of the world's most widely-planted grapes, producing unique expression where ever it is planted. It is particularly common in Spain as Garnacha, and Sardinia, as Canonnau,

Winemakers Notes

'[''A superb value'' Stephen Tanzer] Inky purple. Very fresh' bright aromas of raspberry and blackberry plus a hint of cracked pepper. Juicy and tannin-free with spicy red and dark berry flavors and gentle mineral lift. Scents of spice, violets, concord grapes, and hay. Not much flavor, a bit of smoky wood. Has a warm finish.

Huge hit at a giant party. Everyone was curious and intrigued. Goes with all kinds of foods. Was blind tasted with 6 other under $10 wines by a group of wine enthusiasts (including 2 sommeliers) and it was the hands down favorite. Pink peppers, unique berries, floral notes. Yum.

"Royal robe to the eye. Exotic and richly perfumed. On the palate layers of confited cherries and blueberries--exuberantly rich but not at all cloying or overbearing. despite its dense flavors, it retains a floral freshness with its perfume of violets. With time, a savory note emerges, as it should--this is Grenache after all from the Mediterranean! Wow! Drinks well above it's price! But I shouldn't be surprised--it's crafted by Jean-Marc Lafage of Las Rocas, who sources the Grenache clusters from the same set of high-altitude vineyards. This is BY FAR one of the greatest read more...

Medium-dark plum color at first pour, with minimal aromatics. On it's own, drinkable but not noteworthy. Light on the palate, some nice acidity. Better with cheese. Best pairing for this was a mixed baby green salad with goat feta cheese, black and green marinated olives, tomatoes, fresh pork flank strips and a lime-citrus vinagrette. The dressing really opened up the flavors to the wine, and it was simply divine. This wine definitely likes the company of some food. A nice value for $9.00 at World Market.
