Food Pairings for Alta Maria Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Maria Valley
Editorial Reviews for Alta Maria Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Maria Valley
This is kind of subtle on the nose with aromas of almond, peach and orange slowly rising from the glass. It has a distinctly perfume quality with floral and aromatic wood tones. Very lavender. Rather focused in the mouth with lovely purity to the peach, apple and vaguely citrus flavors that are surrounded by soft wood tones. The texture is bright with a creamy, leesy edge that pops on the mid-palate but recedes as the wine regains tension on the back end and through the moderately long finish. This finish shows more peachy fruit and a slightly more aggressive, toasty oak profile, though it’s still a very harmonious wine. Damn, this is good. 93pts
Yeasty and bright on the nose with notes of seashells and salty minerals backed up by a hint of licorice. This is subtle and seductively complex on the nose. There’s very well judged wood here in balance with the fruit and allowing the bright core of mineral to shine through. Whoa, this is explosive up front with real purity to the ripe fruit that has excellent verve and near perfect richness. Clear and vibrant with lime laced orchard fruit that yield to cutting acids on the backend, this is wonderfully refreshing and sappy with great mineral follow through on the moderately long finish. It’s a bit hot on the finish but a great bottle of Chardonnay. A wine to buy! 93pts
This wine is a keeper! yum!
Still one of my most favorite chardonnays. Luscious, balanced acid with a rich texture and creaminess on the palate. Well integrated oak and wonderful flavors. Sad there will be no 2010 or 2011. 95 pts. 9/2/12 at Rancho Ontiveros
Floral aromas with a lot of fresh lemon juice. Good, fresh acidity, more lemon flavor and a hint of sweetness.
Everything a chardonnay should be! Perfectly walks the line between crisp fruit and oak. It's just simply, awesome and delicious!
Interesting aroma with a little caramel. Light and summer-like.

The 2009 Chardonnay shows lovely balance in its bright citrus fruit and sweet spices. This is a relatively tight, focused style of Chardonnay that impresses for its energy, focus and overall sense of harmony. The fruit was sourced from the Bien Nacido and Solomon Hills vineyards. The wine was aged on its lees in roughly equal parts oak and steel, with 50% of malolactic fermentation. It is a terrific value in California Chardonnay. Anticipated maturity: 2011-2014. No Chardonnay in California is richer or riper than this. It detonates on the palate with an explosion of pineapples, green apples, tangerines, apricots, honey, butterscotch and dusty cinnamon spices. Acidity is pretty and zesty. Would benefit from greater subtlety, but it sure is opulent. S.H. Pale yellow. Ripe citrus and orchard fruit aromas, with slow-building spiciness and a hint of honey. A deeply flavored midweight that offers juicy pear and tangerine flavors and a bit of back-end heat. Finishe...
