Alpa Premium Veneto Merlot 2011

Member Review by duncan 906:

I got given this bottle of wine at Christmas and as I made an Italian pasta dish for my meal on my day off I felt it appropriate to have this Italian wine with it. I have not been able to find out much abnot it.Veneto is one of Italy's major wine producing regions and is located in the north-east of the country around the towns of Venice,Verona and Padua. My bottle is an Indicazione Geographica Protetta which is a step below a DOC in the Italian wine heirarchy.I enjoyed my bottle. It was certainly fruity [think plums and blackcurrants]but the tannins were so soft as to be practically non-existant which surprised me as it is a fairly young bottle..It was an OK bottle of wine and I am not ungrateful for the gift but there are better merlots out there

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.
