Editorial Reviews for Alois Lageder Pinot Grigio Benefizium Porer
This smells a bit earthy and woody on the nose, with a soft almond and honeycomb tone. A bit soft in the mouth at first, again with a touch of old wood up front, before the acids firm up the mid-palate. This is taut and bright with fairly rich, if gentle, fruit that is mineral-flecked with a creamy, moderately long finish. Nice hint of bitter spice on the finale. 88pts

Alois Lageder's Pinot Grigio is a straw yellow in color, striped with vibrant green hues. The floral bouquet is enticing, with a subtle undertone of spiciness. The palate is rich, with a slight smokiness and a fresh, crisp finish. An excellent wine to serve as an aperitif or paired with fish, shellfish, poultry, or white meat dishes.
Alois Lageder is one of Italy's foremost winemakers. Based in the mountainous Alto Adige region in the far north of the country, the vines (which were converted to biodyanmics in 2004) enjoy a long, sunny growing season with warm days and cool nights that help to preserve both the grapes' natural aromas and acidity. The wines themselves are made in a solar-powered state-of-the-art winery. The house style is all about freshness, elegance and purity of fruit. These are finely chiseled wines with real definition, but immense charm too. Benefizium Porer Pinot Grigio shows a brilliant straw-yellow colour. On the nose it is very perfumed, rich, slightly smoky, uplifted varietal aroma paired with elegant oak spice. The palate is fantastically clean, grapey, with a full-bodied flavour. In the mouth it is remarkably long and spicy. Under proper storage conditions, this wine may be cellared for 4 to 6 years. The texture is quite soft, creamy and delicate and with a fresh finish. This wine is wonderfully suited to starters, pâtés and terrines, cold meat, all kinds of fish and seafood, white meat and poultry.
