Typical of this variety, the nose is muted with some light lemon, peach and cake spice - inviting in a wine suited to warm summer evenings. On the palate, there is a clean, balanced, thirst-quenching purity though without any intervening complexity. Very reminiscent of a lighter style Chardonnay or a typical Canadian Pinot Blanc. A very good wine as expected from this producer and, of course, recommended.

Hailing from the Alto Adige region of northern Italy, known for its fleshy, heavier whites, the Lageder Pinot Bianco is no exception to the rule. Less sharp than Pinot Grigio, its more famous cousin, Pinot Bianco has a rounder, fruitier flavor, even while maintaining a refreshing crispness. Perfect as an apertif or an accompaniment to light fish or chicken dishes.

The 2009 Pinot Bianco is a very pretty, stylish wine with gorgeous aromatics and expressive, generous fruit. Fresh, refined and polished throughout, this entry-level Pinot Bianco offers terrific quality for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2012. This is the finest set of wines I have tasted from Alois Lageder.
