Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco Haberle 2011

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Earthy and tight on the nose with hints of river stones, dried peach, dusty soil tones and a hint of linden flower. Elegantly knit together, this is seamless and light on the palate with finely nuanced river stone and old wood nites supporting hints of apricot and lime zest that frames the core of peachy orchard fruit. The finish shows focus and energy with a well integrated vein of red minerality knitting together the wine from midpalate through the end of the moderately long, salty in a mineral water kind of way finish. The finish shows a hint of tropical fruit, nondescript perhaps but with something that recalls both green and ripe papaya. A bit subtle but totally enjoyable. 89pts

Alois Lageder produces four different groups of wines: Classic Wines, Single Vineyard Wines, Biodynamics and Estate Wines. Alois Lageder’s wines are directed to a quality-conscious public and are available only in better restaurants and specialist shops. Classic Wines include wines from the traditionally grown grapes of Alto Adige. Single variety white, rosé and red wines of high quality. Single Vineyard Wines make use of the grapes of selected, individual vineyards, separately vinified. The characteristic features of each particular place and exposure find resonant expression. The ‘beta delta’ wines are made from certified organic grapes from vineyards that are farmed according to biodynamic methods of viticulture (Greek: βios and δinamikòs). Estate Wines are the flagship wines of Alois Lageder. Grapes from exceptional locales and exposures are carefully selected according to rigorous standards. They mature in barriques of French oak into fine, complex wines. Their quantity is limited by nature itself. Read less
