Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco Alto Adige Südtirol 2009
Alois Lageder is one of Italy's foremost winemakers. Based in the mountainous Alto Adige region in the far north of the country, the vines (which were converted to biodyanmics in 2004) enjoy a long, sunny growing season with warm days and cool nights that help to preserve both the grapes' natural aromas and acidity. The wines themselves are made in a solar-powered state-of-the-art winery. The house style is all about freshness, elegance and purity of fruit. These are finely chiseled wines with real definition, but immense charm too. This Pinot Bianco is a brilliant straw yellow colour with green tints. It is very fine and fruity, with a pronouced clean and elegant mouth and a mouth-watering finish.
External Reviews for Alois Lageder Pinot Bianco Alto Adige Südtirol
Despite the growing popularity of Pinot Grigio, particularly in the United States, Pinot Bianco remains the most widely planted white grape in the Alto Adige region. Lageder is one of the arearsquo;s best producers of either white, and this wine comes from Lagederrsquo;s single-varietal range, offering lots of very rich, tropical fruit character and value thatrsquo;s hard to beat.
Beyond the flavors of white peach and hay, therersquo;s a subtle red fruit character adding dimension to this lean, bright white. Ideal served with a plate of salami and cheese.
Hailing from the Alto Adige region of northern Italy, known for its fleshy, heavier whites, the Lageder Pinot Bianco is no exception to the rule. Less sharp than Pinot Grigio, its more famous cousin, Pinot Bianco has a rounder, fruitier flavor, even while maintaining a refreshing crispness. Perfect as an apertif or an accompaniment to light fish or chicken dishes.
Ultrarich, with layers of opulent, tropical fruit and light mineral undertones. Full-bodied, with a long, long finish. Drink now.
The 2009 Pinot Bianco is a very pretty, stylish wine with gorgeous aromatics and expressive, generous fruit. Fresh, refined and polished throughout, this entry-level Pinot Bianco offers terrific quality for the money. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2012. This is the finest set of wines I have tasted from Alois Lageder.
This shows lots of sliced green apple and honey on the nose. Full-bodied, with tangy acidity and a vibrant finish. Drink now.
