What to Expect

Grenache is the main grape in many Rhone blends and most Cotes du Rhone and Chateaunuef-du-pape. It's a grape that yields soft, lightly colored yet full wines endowed with deep notes of strawberry and raspberry. While not prone to producing particularly rich or complex wines in France, Grenache is one of the world's most widely-planted grapes, producing unique expression where ever it is planted. It is particularly common in Spain as Garnacha, and Sardinia, as Canonnau,

93% Garnacha, 7% Syrah From slopes on the edge of the Sierra Iberica, just south of Navarra where Garnacha is king, this special cuvee blends 7% Syrah with rich Grenache produced from vines of 35 to 50 years of age. The resultant wine exhibits an elegance rarely encountered in the wines from this DO. Fermentation is classical, with no carbonic maceration. Aging is wholly in stainless steel. An excellent Spanish red from the Campo de Borja region, made from a blend of old-vine Garnacha and a bit of Syrah. Dark, fresh and - no surprise - deliciously "grapey" on the palate. Light, silky tannins make for a very pleasant finish. Try it with grilled fare for a failsafe pairing.

What a great value! Picked up six bottles at only $5 each! Aromatic and full with a decent finish. Uses old vine Grenache grapes, with 15% Syrah blended in. Excellent "party wine", as you can afford to provide this to all of your guests!
