Almaviva . Vino de Origen Chileno. Bodegas Mouton Rotschild. Varid 2001

Winemaker's Notes:

Assemblage Cabernet Sauvignon: 74% Carmenère: 21% Cabernet Franc: 5% Barrel Aging 18 Months, new French oak Tasting Notes Dark ruby red, intense and opaque. The nose is deep and complex, remarkably rich and concentrated, revealing fresh ripe fruits aromas, wild strawberries, black currant and blackberries nicely associated with mineral notes, spices, tobacco and coffee. The attack is powerful, ample and silky, immediately revealing a well-balanced and harmonious structure. The tannins are ripe and round, nicely enveloped by flavorful hints of vanilla, toasted orange zest, lavender, chocolate, and licorice. The finish is long, mineral and silky, enhancing the richness of the ripe fruit and the elegance of the tannins. A superb wine of an exceptional finesse and remarkable expression.

Viña Almaviva:
In 1997, Baroness Philippine de Rothschild, Chairman of the Advisory Board of Baron Philippe de Rothschild SA, and Eduardo Guilisasti Tagle, Chairman of Viña Concha y Toro S.A., sealed a partnership agreement with a view to create an exceptional Franco-Chilean wine called Almaviva. Produced under the joint technical supervision of both partners, the first vintage achieved immediate international success upon its launch in 1998.

Fantastic wine. Not so potent as some other Chileans, but elegant and complex. Great experience. (Drank it 2006)

It may have been abandoned in its Bordeaux home, but Carmenère has found a home and a new life in Chile. It makes red wines with good juicy fruit, freshness, flavors of ripe plums. This example, blended with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Syrah, is a great wine just to drink, full of fruit, with a touch of toast, vanilla and smooth tannins.

...High-pitched aromas of blackberry mint and minerals. Juicy but quite tightly wound today...Juicy acidity contributes to the impression of structure...This penetrating mostly cabernet sauvignon (86%) Mouton will need at least a decade of bottle aging. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

A simple wine, this offers sweet cherry flavor packed in a light, velvety texture, green herbal notes adding freshness. For barbecue.

This brick house of a wine shows plenty of Pauillac-like hints of iron, dried currant and cigar smoke, but also has layers of Chilean loam, blackberry, plum, spice and minerals. A powerful performance in a powerful vintage. Cabernet Sauvignon, Carmen... Wine Spectator. A Proprietary Blend wine from in Chile. 2001 Almaviva 750ml

Very smoky with berry coffee and tobacco aromas. Full-bodied with polished velvety tannins plenty of fruit and a cedary aftertaste. Tight and compacted. This is better than the 2000 Mouton...Solid and very very fine. Persists for a long time on the palate... Wine Spectator.
