I was very surprised to drink a wine of this quality from Chile! The tannins were big but smooth. Hints of lead pencil and lots of dark fruit. This wine will last a very long time. It was a gift and I had never heard of it. Wow. I sure won't forget it.

Dark red/purple color, Mouth-Filling fruit, bright, crisp acidity and good tannins that are firm but not harsh. This is a Bordeaux that can be enjoyed now and for the next decade! And at a terrific price, too. As prices in Bordeaux have sky-rocketed, Croix-Mouton is roughly the same price it was three years ago.

The robe is rich black prune in the center and garnet-vermilion towards the edge. Delicate aromas of forest strawberries, raspberries, cocoa and wildflowers with overtones of honey and incense characterize the subtle nose. The very precise attack is fresh. The evolution is pure and creamy with persistent and enrobed tannins. Flavors of peach pips, almonds and smoky mesquite blend together with vanilla and bright, fresh red and black fruit aromas throughout the exceptionally elegant finish. A remarkably graceful and pure wine.

Beautiful aromas of crushed berries and chocolate with hints of Indian spices. Full-bodied with silky velvety tannins and a long caressing finish. A lovely wine for the vintage. This is the first wine from the new winemaking team at Mouton and is showing really well. Best after 2011. 23 000 cases made. JS Wine Spectator.

Good full ruby-red. Expressive aromas of currant coffee dark chocolate tobacco mocha and smoked meat. Juicy spicy and classically dry rather tight and backward for 2004 and not a particularly fleshy style even if it s nicely sweetened by nutty oak. But this boasts excellent precision and verve and the aromatic finishing flavors build slowly and steadily. Firm acids and tannins give this plenty of backbone for development in bottle. With extended aeration the texture became silkier. Stephe

The dense ruby/purple-hued fresh vivacious 2004 Mouton-Rothschild offers hints of new saddle leather truffles cassis and pain grille zesty acidity a touch of austerity and a medium-bodied streamlined restrained personality. This rich pure claret will require patience as it needs a decade of cellaring to shed its lofty tannins. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2045. Robert Parkers Wine Advocate.

"This estate?s harvest began on September 29 and ended on October 15. Unlike the massive, tannic, blockbuster 2003, Mouton?s 2004 is a more linear, streamlined effort fashioned from a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 12% Cabernet

Winemaker's Notes:

The hot, dry conditions from November to March gave small and concentrated berries.  Two short rains at the end of March and the middle of April accelerated the ripening by rinsing the leaves in the vineyard and re-activating the vine’s photosynthesis, allowing for optimum ripeness. The grapes were picked on fifteen days over a twenty-five day period, from April 20 to May 14.  Very low yields gave grapes with supple, round tannins and precise fruit flavors. Tasting Notes The robe is rich black prune in the center and garnet-vermilion towards the edge. Delicate aromas of forest strawberries, raspberries, cocoa and wildflowers with overtones of honey and incense characterize the subtle nose. The very precise attack is fresh. The evolution is pure and creamy with persistent and enrobed tannins.
