Rather restrained on the nose with subtle aromatic wood and dried floral top notes, this is fairly reticent but has slow-to-emerge dark fruit, soft notes of chocolate savings and some minty tones. Very easy on entry but the tannins assert themselves pretty quickly. They’re a bit drying and poke through the fruit a bit. The mid-palate shows some rich black cherry notes with spice tones accentuated by the spice of the tannins. The finish has a vanilla streak, and is quite long with a little cedary element and excellent persistent to the dark fruit. Not my style but well done. 90pts
Big and jammy on the nose with a strong, raw wood tone. The fruit in the mouth is thick and sweet in a popular style and married vegetal notes with a bright red currant fruit tone. On the finish there was a sweet nuttiness that contrasted somewhat against the sweet, candied fruit. Interested but I don't know where this is headed. Drink 2009-2012 87pts
Great, ruby red color. A bit sweet at first, with a nice spice backup. A bit disappointed with the finish, and I wish it was a bit brighter in taste.
Really smoky on the nose, with some raspberry and a hint of mint. Soft and lush on the palette with a spicy finish.

This was fantastic. Aromas and flavors of brown sugar, cherry, eucalyptus, and pine. Lots of complexity in the finish, with earth and spice notes added.
Raspberry, rhubarb, and spice aromas and flavors. Turns a touch candied on the finish, but there is nice balance and complexity in this wine.

Richard Sanford was the first person to plant vines in Santa Rita Hills and is legendary in California winemaking. The 100-acre Encantada vineyard is planted to seven different Pinot Noir clones. This relatively full-bodied Pinot has notes of cherry, cola, coffee, and pomegranate on the nose and rustic tannins on the finish.
Spicy and bright, this wine’s black pepper and light strawberry tones have some tension to the structure. The tannins have an earthy grip, a warm edge for quail roasted with wild mushrooms.

Deep red. Smoky oak and black raspberry on the nose. Lively red berry flavors are firmed by juicy acidity and given depth by a slow-building dark chocolate quality. The finish features an interesting Campari-like bitterness and a lingering note of cracked pepper. Not a particularly easy style, but nicely suited to strongly seasoned red meat dishes.
Balanced, with spicy plum, herb, sage and hints of cedar and anise, ending with a drying herbal aftertaste. Drink now through 2010.
