User Reviews for Allegrini Corvina Blend Valpolicella Classico Superiore Palazzo Della Torre
Add your reviewMedium ruby. Red cherry, dark plum, caramel, and floral aromas. Medium-plus acidity, medium tanins, medium-plus intensity, medium-plus body, and high alcohol (14.5%). Maraschino cherry and well integrated oak on the palate. Long, earthy finish.
So tonight being the 100th anniversary of the last dinner aboard the RMS Titanic, I thought it might be interesting to honor the tragedy with a dinner and bottle of wine that hearkens back to those days when technology and industry seemed to hold all the answers for mankind (where have I heard that before?). So I thought about recreating the menu, but I have to admit I had neither the desire nor inclination toward creating a 12-course dinner for myself tonight, so that seems out, though you know whatever I have will be good. Then I searched the web trying to find a list of wines served on Titanic, and perhaps I might have a current vintage, or even a similar wine, like a Bordeaux or Burgundy, but alas there is very little detail on the wines served on board. This is a nice Veronese. Medium bodied with rich enough flavor and smooth finish. $15.95 SDWC
Delicious, dry and soft. Licorice predominant on nose. Spicy red fruit on palatte. Medium body. Ate with fennel meatballs and pasta. Will look for this again!
External Reviews for Allegrini Corvina Blend Valpolicella Classico Superiore Palazzo Della Torre
The 2008 Palazzo Della Torre is striking in this vintage. It shows remarkable harmony in a tense, mineral-infused expression of fruit. Hints of licorice, tobacco, mocha and spices develop in the glass, adding further complexity and nuance. All of the elements flow gracefully to a finish layered with the essence of crushed rocks and flowers. This is an absolutely delicious wine from Allegrini. Palazzo della Torre is made with a partial ripasso technique in which 30% of the fruit is dried Amarone-style, while the other 70% is picked and vinified conventionally. Once again, Palazzo della Torre is one of the very finest values in Italian wine. Anticipated maturity: 2012andndash;2020.
This sleek, polished red offers juicy blackberry and black fruit flavors, backed by refined tannins and well-integrated acidity. Hard to stop sipping. Corvina Veronese, Rondinella and Sangiovese. Drink now through 2020. 26,000 cases imported. -AN - Top 100, 2011 ** SOLD OUT **

Winemaker's Notes:
Wine Description This blend of 70% Corvina Veronese, 25% Rondinella and 5% Sangiovese is a smooth, fullbodied cru made in an innovative ripasso style. After the harvest, the grapes from the Palazzo della Torre vineyard follow two different paths: 70% of the grapes picked are vinified immediately, and the remaining 30% are left to dry until the end of December. The fresh wine made at harvest is blended with the fermenting juice of the dried grapes, initiating a second fermentation, and rendering a more highly concentrated and complex wine. Allegrini affectionately refers to Palazzo della Torre as its “baby Amarone.” Tasting Notes Deep ruby red in color, this wine is brimming with notes of dark, dried cherries, blackberries and hints of dates and mocha.
