What to Expect
Corvina is one of the classic grapes of the Veneto region of Italy. It is usually the predominant grape in the blends used for Bardolino and Valpolicella. Corvina tends to produce lightly-colored wines with high acidity and moderate tannins featuring flavors that recall dark berries with hints of bitter almond. Corvina's thick skins lends the grape to rasining without rot. This technique is used to produce richer and dessert styled wines such as Amarone and Recioto.
Winemakers Notes
Deep purple in color with a bouquet full of dried fruit. Rich and full bodied, intense and elegant. Velvety smooth. Amarone is an extremely important wine in Italian viticulture as it is unique to the Valpolicella region. Recommended with hearty dishes. Excellent with roasted red meats.
A superclean, juicy Amarone, with concentrated dried black fruit and a well-concealed, smooth oak note. Full-bodied, with fine tannins that give the palate an elegant poise and prolong the fruity finish. Classy and refined, with a long finish. Drink now through 2012.

Reviews Add a Review
this was an intensely complex wine that i had the fortune of enjoying w/ friends for a 35th anniversary. fat and fleshy, this bold red has tons of dark berries, plum, currant, with notes of pepper and cedar throughout. certainly tannic, but not unbalanced, this will mature very well if you can wait. otherwise, no problem to enjoy now...
April 2009
Rating: 89/100 - As reviewed by International Wine Cellar in Issue 125, March/April 2006 ($75) Deep, dark ruby-black color. Port-like aromas of chocolate and cherries macerated in alcohol, with complicating notes of plum, black pepper and game. Rich and suave in the mouth; fat, sweet and fruit-driven, with a touch of cedary oak adding interest to the flavors of smoky plum and blackcurrant. Ultimately, though, the wine's strong tannins detract somewhat from its pleasure factor today, though they're likely to resolve with some bottle aging.
