Winemaker's Notes:
Allan Scott Wines is a family owned and operated company established in 1990. Since the first harvesting of Allan Scott Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc Allan Scott Wines has developed a solid reputation as one of the region's top producers. Nestled among the company's original 24 hectares of prime vineyard in Jackson Road are the winery and sales centre. Since 1990, the Estate has undergone many changes to obtain the best possible sources of grapes and to build facilities that make use of the very best opportunities of Marlborough's ideal year-round conditions. Vineyards acquired over the past 12 years have increased the Estate holdings to 58 hectares. Quality and absolute dedication to achieving the best is the key to Allan Scott Wines. The company prides itself on the viticultural excellence that starts from the vineyards, extending through to the finished product that is produced in the modern well-equipped winery. New this year is the Italian made screwtop bottling machine. A cool climate grape, Pinot Noir is particularly suited to the Marlborough region. The aging of our vines and the greater understanding we gain as growers has enabled us to further develop our Pinot Noir style each year and the 2009 vintage is no exception, continuing our aim in developing our own distinctive style. Fruit driven, this Pinot Noir is rich and dark with red cherries, raspberries and violets on the nose, along with well integrated French oak and creaminess from the malolactic fermention. Subtle smoky oak characters and bright berry fruit flavours on the palate and a nice velvety finish make this a delightfully harmonious Pinot Noir. Pinot Noir is particularly well matched with lamb and game meats. A very food friendly wine complementing savoury dishes but is also enjoyable on its own.
