Alice White Shiraz 2014

Member Review by jamessulis:

Mellow taste, soft tannins, raspberry flavors with a touch of oak. For under $7 this is ok. I had one glass on the patio with a slice of Extra sharp Tillamook White Cheddar while watching a Red winged blackbird feed on my back yard bird feeder. Life is good.

Few things in life capture the spirit of Australia quite as perfectly as a glass of Alice White. Since 1996, Alice has rewarded wine lovers and adventure-seekers with rich, delicious wines produced in the heart of sun-drenched South Eastern Australia, among the world’s finest wine regions. Now, our smooth, boldly flavored, fruit-forward wines sport a vibrant new label capturing the essence of Australia: a kicked-back kangaroo absorbing the radiant warmth of the intense Australian sun. The label and bottle capsule of each Alice White wine – Riesling, Lexia, Chardonnay, Red Lexia, Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Merlot – is color-coded for easy identification, so you can quickly find your favorites without a wine store walkabout. The exemplary quality, accessibility and price-worthiness of our wines frequently earn “Best Value” raves from leading wine publications like Wine Spectator. If you haven’t yet experienced Australia in a glass, we invite you to kick back, chill out and “Have a Glass with Alice.” Read less

I know that it has a good rating but personally I felt like it lacked robustness in flavor. The scent and flavor of the alcohol overwhelmed the flavors of the wine.

Very unexpected, a great beefy glass. Goes down well

We heard a review on CBC this morning stating this was one of the top 10 under $10 wines at the LCBO. The good news is that the 500ml tetra pack was on clearance (CDN$5.85). So, even though we had a blizzard today, I brought home twelve from the neighbourhood store. Verdict? Very smooth and drinkable red. Has a bit of tannin. Don't look for nuanced flavours here, but it's an above average table wine. The 500 ml size is interesting. It would seem to be compatible with the 'having wine with dinner' mode, and not having to deal with the leftovers. We are probably going to look for more, because the price is right. The US price here on Snooth looks to be be a decent value.

Jammy, plummy. Inexpensive. I love this wine. Reminded me of dark cherries and really ripe plums and raspberries.

Complex, spicy and peppery aromas with considerable depth of fruit character. Nicely structured but without any hard edges. Balances nicely with fine, ripe tannic support.

Fresh and simple, with appealingly ripe currant and plum flavors. Drink now.

This wine shows classic characteristics of Australian Shiraz - aromas of dried cherries, anise and eucalyptus. Medium body and moderate tannins on the palate combine to create a rich and intense wine for everyday enjoyment.

Starts mute, but aromas build to butterscotch, cranberry and raisin scone. This really takes shape on the palate, with summer-ripe raspberry, white pepper and grilled meats. Finishes with a note of sweet green herbs.

Bright and appealing for it blackberry and vanilla flavors. Finishes soft. Drink now.

Is this giant the most likable red in our store? Fans of Shiraz will find what they're looking for in this wine's dense blueberry-tinged flavors, but those new to the grape (or to red wines in general) will love the bright fruitiness, smooth taste, and clean finish.
