Alfred Gratien Champagne Blend Champagne Cuvée Classique Brut 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

Combining the best fruit from three areas in Champagne, this lively cuvee synthesizes Pinot Noir's richness and Pinot Meunier's almond notes with Chardonnay, whose lively bouquet of citrus and flowers reflects the appellation's cool climate. This Champagne is hand-made on small oak barriques by a cellar master who considers himself more artist than scientist. The resulting wine is exotic and fresh, with aromas of citrus fruit, hibiscus and minerals. We love its creamy mousse-the French term for the froth created by the pour-and delicate sparkle.Varietals: 45% Chardonnay, 43% Pinot Meunier, 12% Pinot Noir
Nose: Citrus fruits with mineral and hibiscus
Palate: Bright mineral sparkle and a long-lasting mousse
Alcohol: 12.5%
Appellation: A.O.C. Champagne-Epernay

Alfred Gratien is a Champagne house based in Epernay, France that has been producing since 1864. Nicolas Jaeger is the current cellar master, responsible for ensuring the quality of the Champagnes, selecting the very best Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grapes to add to the cuvées. The grapes are sourced from the three main regions of Champagne for each varietal: Chardonnay from Côtes des Blancs, Pinot Noir from Montagne de Reims and Pinot Noir from the Marne Valley. Wine is produced without the use of malolactic fermentation to preserve the integrity of the grapes’ specific characters. All of these factor in to make a series of top quality, small production Champagnes in a variety of styles sure to please any palate. Read less
