Food Pairings for Aldo and Riccardo Seghesio Barolo
Editorial Reviews for Aldo and Riccardo Seghesio Barolo
This is very hard on the nose with spicy, brothy notes and an underlay of creosote. In the mouth this is dark and very compressed with some woody tannins piercing the veil of dark fruit but overall the texture, verging as it is on velvety, is the wine’s best feature. There are some nice cherry notes and a touch of menthol, but the sweet fruit on entry is quickly squished by the wood leaving this a bit clumsy, hot, and one-dimensional. 86pts

Good full red. Sexy, ripe aromas of currant, underbrush and licorice. Broad, sweet and open-knit, with nicely concentrated, lightly saline berry and licorice flavors. Shows much gentler tannins than the 2008 La Villa, and finishes juicy and persistent. This would make a good Barolo by-the-glass pour for a restaurant.
The 2008 Barolo is impressive in this vintage. It bursts from the glass with tons of richness and concentration for the year. Dark red fruit, flowers and licorice wrap around the insistent, powerful finish. The fleshy, radiant finish is unusual for the year. This is one of the best Baroli readers will find for the money. I loved it. Anticipated maturity: 2016–2028.
Bright, deep red. Liqueur-like raspberry, cherry and violet on the inviting nose. Sweet, pliant and lush, but with its impression of fleshiness leavened by lovely lift and floral perfume. Strong wine with excellent energy. One to buy — and to cellar.
Refined and elegant, yet intense, this red reveals flavors of rose, strawberry and cherry, with a touch of licorice. Tightly wound, this stays firm and fresh on the long, mineral-tinged finish. Best from 2013 through 2030.
I was completely floored by Seghesio’s 2006 Barolo La Villa, easily the best vintage of this wine I have ever tasted. Dark plums, cherries, violets, minerals and spices emerge from this deceptively mid-weight Barolo. The wine gains muscle in the glass; yet retains elements of etherealness that are quite attractive. This looks to be a rare 2006 that is accessible relatively early. The wine’s balance, poise and sense of harmony are terrific. This is a great effort from Seghesio. Anticipated maturity: 2014–2026
