Albert Mann Pinot Blanc Blend Alsace Aoc Pinot Blanc Auxerrois 2011

Winemaker's Notes:

Fruity, aromatic wines which you may drink within the next 5 years. The rigour in the elaboration of the wines and the philosophy of the estate, deeply rooted in a tradition of quality, are symbolized by the axes which lean on the square (here, the best of the soil is expressed); the two T-squares represent the action of the two families, realizing and guaranteeing this quality.

The birth of the Domaine Albert Mann is the fruit of the joint efforts of two big viticultural families, Mann and Barthelmé. The Mann's have been winegrowers since the beginning of the 17th century, and Barthelmé since 1654. Today the brothers, Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé, assisted by their wives, Marie-Claire and Marie-Thérèse, manage the family estate. The Domaine Albert Mann is located in Wettolsheim, a small village in the south of Alsace, 1.3 miles away from Colmar. The vineyards cover an area of 47 acres spread on 8 communes. The domaine practices organic viticulture. The grapes are hand harvested, and then slowly extracted to get clear juice that doesn't need any supply of oenological products, with the exception of a small quantity of sulfur. After a fermentation of several months, the wines stay in contact with their lees that nourish them and that, at the same time, stabilize them naturally. The wines are bottled at waning moon in order to preserve the fruit. Crisp green apples and pears, coupled with a rich viscous mouthfeel make a nice enjoyable, but light wine. Served with Toro of New Zealand, wild Hiramassa, white asparagus, and grapefruit

Jacky and Maurice Barthelmersquo;s 2007 Pinot Blanc mdash; a blend of roughly equal parts Auxerrois and true Pinot Blanc mdash; is once again a marvelous reminder of how wonderful and versatile this genre of Alsace wine can be (but nowadays so seldom is). Alluring aromas of fresh apricot, tangerine zest and shrimp shell set the scene for a generous mouthful of pit- and citrus-fruits that strikes a superb balance between refreshment and creaminess of texture. Nor is there any lack of mineral interest here, with subtle saline savory, and chalky suggestions. Enjoy this over the next 18 months. (If this text mdash; and the score mdash; sounds familiar, that is merely a reflection of the consistent quality that accrues to this release!)

Light and bright, with crisp acidity and fresh flavors of lemon zest, beeswax and chamomile. Drink now.

Pale color. White peach and acacia flower on the pure nose. Juicy and just off-dry, with lovely cut and precision to the flavors of lemon, peach and white flowers. Not especially complex but utterly delicious.
