What to Expect

Pinot Grigio is one of the world's most popular wines. Also known under the French moniker "Pinot Gris", and even the German "Ruländer" among others, Pinot Grigio is a chameleon of a grape. It is produced in a range of styles, from the light fruity Italian style that has gained popularity, to a more mineral, flinty rich wine favored by the French - particularly in Alsace - and emulated by many in the new world.

Winemakers Notes

In Alsace, Pinot Gris was referred as "Tokay Pinot Gris" until 2007, when a decree changed it to Pinot Gris. This dry white comes from the Brand vineyard site, a Grand Cru. The 2005 was a very concentrated vintage, with small production and great complexity.
The wine fermented for three months. Fermentation stopped naturally at the point of balance. The wine stayed on the lies until bottling.
Location: Grand cru Brand is located near Turckheim (close to Colmar). Southern exposure, steep slopes.
Alcohol: 14.5%
Total acidity: 5 g/l
Residual sugar: 45 g/l

45g residual sugar - not sure how you get to call it a 'dry white', for it is not. There's a rich, sweet, nose that exudes complexity. And, its sweet on the tongue too - beautiful, concentrated and intensely complex, a wine of real character and depth. My wine of the night.

Served with roast Guinea hen, Carpentras white asparagus, and morel mushrooms
