Albarino Do Rias Baixas Mar de Frades 2017

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

Soft on the nose with sandy soil tones, sweet if light orchard fruits and a touch of lemon verbena. Nicely focused on entry. Not a big wine but with nicely balanced and rather assertive citrus, unripe peach and very gentle mineral tones. Really shows some verve on the palate with a nice fruity follow-through and good, succulent length. 88pts

Bright tropical fruits and creamy nose. The body is nicely tart with an oiliness that persists into strawberry fruits.

This wine has a particular acidity that did not seem completely balanced at first sip. One it sat for a bit, it seem to really open up and the sweetness started to better balance the acidity. Turned into a very good bottle. Wonderfully paired with salmon.

The 2005 vintage of Mar de Frades is an excellent one. This wine is a nice change from Chardonnay and has a hint of dryness. I would recommend trying this one if you can get your hands on it.
