What to Expect

Argentina, and in particular the region around Mendoza, is making a name for itself as the source of some of the finest expressions of Malbec ever made. In this warm, yet dry climate the Malbec achieves near perfect ripeness endowing the wines with a velvety texture and intense flavors of blackberry, peppery spice, and balsamic herbs. The cooler, well-drained slopes of the hillsides of the region have proven to be ideally suited for Malbec, allowing for the wines to achieve a level of complexity and harmony that rivals those of Napa or Bordeaux.

This is a standard in my collection. Easy drinking wine with a good spice at the back end and with enough body to make it interesting without overpowering.

I enjoyed it. I'm fan of Merlot so this was right up my alley. I would recommend this, don't let the price fool you.

WOW my first Malbec. I liked it very much. This wine has a thin viscosity, with hints of cherry, and melon. Wonderful aromas. I paid $9 for 9 oz.

1st) Violet, grassy, dank red beef and dirt nose (not unpleasant). Mild approach for a malbec, balanced, medium finish. Leather and oak, not a lot of fruit.
Velvet tannins that stay with you long after the finish is gone.

Wine making has made this wine too approachable to be a typical Mendoza, oriented towards mass market, which is reflected in it's price of $9.95.

2nd) Initial tasting was a little cold. Picking up a little more fruit and balanced taste. Good for 1/2 more point.

If you drink Malbec, this should definitely be on your list. You almost cannot go wrong with Alamos. The 2008 is very well-rounded malbec and for a great price. Typical malbec-y deep purple color and strong violet/berry aroma. Nice tannins and a really elegant sort of dryness on the back of the tongue that lingers. Unlike some inexpensive malbecs, this has a lovely finish. Granted, there are better expressions of malbec out there, but this is above the average. You must keep a bottle or two around.

The nose is sturdy and complex with a long and well rounded taste. It offers a variety of flavors. We will purchase more of this!
