Alain Jaume/Grand Veneur Cotes du Rhone Villages les Champauvins Ac Cotes du Rhone Villages Alain Jaume Domaine Grand Veneur Grenache. Mourvedre. Syrah Frankrijk Rood Rhône Zuid Frankrijk 2007

External Review by Premium Wine & Spirits:

Full-bodied, creamy and lush in texture, this 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah is just right for drinking over the next few years. Black cherry fruit is touched with just enough pepper and anise to keep your interest sip after sip, gently framed by soft tannins on the finish. Great burger wine.

Some very good values under the negociant label include the Alain Jaume 2007 Cotes du Ventoux Les Gelinottes. This is a classic French vin de plaisir. Soft, lovely, not complex, but with medium body and loads of fruit, this is a pretty example of a wine meant for drinking, not introspection.

There is a bevy of other value-priced Alain Jaume wines. For example, the 2007 Cotes du Ventoux Les Gelinottes (50% Grenache and 50% Syrah) reveals abundant berry fruit, crushed rock, and roasted herb characteristics in a straightforward, juicy, succulent style that will have plenty of fans given its lowly price. Enjoy it over the next several years.

Young purply-pink color in the glass. Pristine clarity with vibrant cherry and strawberry fruits coming through on the nose. Medium in body but concentrated, with solid, juicy, ripe fruits and a sumptuous, clean finish.

Fans of Cotes du Rhone looking to take a step up without breaking the bank should look no further. This 50-50 blend of Grenache and Syrah hails from the Cotes du Ventoux in the southern Rhone. Light- to medium-bodied, yet highly concentrated and aromatic. Earthy, mushroom notes intermingle with classic red berry fruits; well-balanced with smooth tannins and crisp acidity. Its amazing food pairing potential makes this the perfect hostess gift!
