Alain Jaume Chateauneuf-du-Pape Vieux Terron 2015

External Review:

Loaded with black cherry and plum fruit, this is an amply endowed Chandacirc;teauneuf-du-Pape that avoids excess. The fruit flavors remain fresh and vibrant, the oaking is understated and the wineandrsquo;s size is ably supported by soft tannins and just-sufficient acidity. Drink nowandndash;2020.

The beautiful 2009 Grand Veneur Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines (a blend of 50% Grenache, 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah aged in small barrels) offers notes of graphite, camphor, blackberries, creme de cassis, Provencal herbs and lavender. It is nearly as good as the brilliant 2007. Full-bodied and rich with nicely integrated tannins, acidity and wood, the 2009 will benefit from several years of bottle age and should evolve for 20 or more years.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape Les Origines (1,500 cases produced) is a blend of 50% Grenache, a whopping 30% Mourvedre and 20% Syrah with the latter two components spending time in new oak barrels. All of the fruit comes from vines that are nearly 70 years of age. A great wine with an opaque ruby/purple color, sensational fruit intensity and notes of graphite, lavender, licorice, lead pencil shavings and subtle smoke, it is full-bodied, rich and powerful with low acidity and sweet, velvety tannins. It should drink well for 15+ years.

Both of Grand Veneurrsquo;s bottled 2001 Chacirc;teauneuf du Papes are outstanding effortshellip; The top offering, the 2001 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuveacute;e Les Origines exhibits an even more saturated ruby/purple color as well as glorious aromas of acacia flowers, blackberries, licorice, chocolate, and kirsch liqueur. With fabulous richness and purity, medium to full body, undeniable elegance for its size, and a long, textured, multidimensional finish, it is the finest Les Origines Alain Jaume has yet produced. Anticipated maturity: 2006ndash;2016.

Solid, with a mix of red and black currant fruit held together with notes of pastis, licorice and violet. A good dash of grip on the finish keeps this honest. Opens nicely in the glass. Drink now through 2019.

Ruby-red. Sexy bouquet of cherry-vanilla, blackberry, cola and smoked meat. Fleshy and sweet, with lush red and dark berry compote flavors, velvety texture and slow-building tannins. As inviting as this is right now, it also has the material to reward patience.

Exhibiting a saturated ruby/purple color as well as a big, sweet nose revealing a surprising amount of oak, the 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape Cuvee Les Origines is a full-bodied, chewy, layered, large-scaled, low acid, concentrated offering. This open-knit Chateauneuf veers toward the more modern, international style of winemaking, but it unquestionably possesses all the typicity of Chateauneuf du Pape. Drink it over the next 12ndash;14 years.
