Aia Vecchia is the name of an old building which is today the centre of a company deep in the Tuscany countryside between Bolgheri and Castagneto Carducci. This is an area where the particularly favourable microclimate and ideally suited soils make possible the production of very high quality wines. The particular position gives the vines very much light, both direct sunlight as sunlight reflected by the sea. This in general allows an early harvest. The property consists of 69 hectars of open ground: 48 are vineyards, 30 of which are under the Bolgheri DOC. The planted varieties are Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, which are used to produce Lagone and Sor Ugo. In the cellar situated in Castagneto Carducci there are 2000 barriques. The Morellino di Scansano is produced in the estate of Magliano in Toscana (Grosseto) which consists of 10 hectares planted with Sangiovese and Merlot grape varieties. Read less

Fantastic wine to drink right now. A red blend comprised largely of Merlot, the nose displays aromas of dark fruit and mocha - however it is deceptive as it smells lighter than it actually is. The palate opens up with more developed dark fruits and chocolate - very chewy with clean tannins. Long finish. Will pair well with all of your grilling desires.

Aia Vecchiarsquo;s 2007 Lagone is a wonderful entry-level red from Tuscanyrsquo;s Maremma. A blend of 60% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, the Aia Vecchia emerges with dark red berries, grilled herbs and spices, showing lovely vibrancy and freshness all the way through to the finish. This is a great value and a fabulous introduction to the wines of Bolgheri. Anticipated maturity: 2010ndash;2014.

Bright, medium ruby-red. Musky aromas of red cherry, raspberry, tobacco and smoked meat. Round, broad and lush, this forward, easygoing wine conveys a low-acid impression and considerable sweetness to its red fruit, licorice and candied fruit flavors. Finishes with soft tannins and a hint of minerality. A very fruity, almost syrupy style of wine that offers uncomplicated but highly satisfying drinking for the near term.
