The “Chianti Geografico Method” makes all the difference; it delivers quality. In a province that boasts six DOCG areas and represents the history of wine in Italy, the “Chianti Geografico Method” allows us to give maximum expression to the distinctive features of each area, rather than blending these into a single anonymous style. We know that the quality our customers demand is best delivered through wines of unique character. For this reason, our work in the vineyards is increasingly site specific. We have perfected the “Chianti Geografico Method” over nearly 50 years, thanks to the close links between our members and their land. We recognize that each vineyard has a unique geology and microclimate which together defines its “terroir”. Understanding this combination is a fundamental principle of cultivation, since it determines which vines are best suited to each site and how those vines should be planted and tended. This process delivers as much distinctive flavor as is possible to create from the rapport between vine and location. Today, as in the past, we oversee the critical features of the production cycle, in collaboration with each grower member, so that he may share ownership of the end product. The “Chianti Geografico Method” can be summarised into four inputs, each with a specific objective: 1. Evaluation of the vineyard’s characteristics by geologist and agronomist prior to selecting vine varieties best suited to each location 2. Providing assistance to the grower in selecting the best vineyard management techniques for each site 3. Providing an efficient winery operation 4. Undertaking bottling and managing sales. Our “method” allows us to act cohesively in each phase, emphasizing the personality of each grower and his property. In this way our grower members can achieve their principal objective: to produce and bottle wines only where the grapes are grown. The Agricoltori del Geografico company is dynamic and youthful and comprises skilled and enthusiastic staff managed and supported by colleague with considerable experience. Well-trained and carefully-managed human resources are essential for our future growth, and in order to strengthen our project and message, we hold regular refresher courses for our employees. Since 1995, in memory of Pietro Cinughi De’ Pazzi (our former president and co-founder), we have awarded an annual scholarship to a wine-technician studying at the Technical School of Agriculture in Siena, to fund the undertaking of a period of training in a winery abroad. Geografico is composed of people working as a family, and it is this that makes our operation successful. Over the years the results of ongoing research have to improvement in the quality of our grapes, providing ample reward to our growers for their labours. Each crop is analysed and evaluated in our own laboratories. Each consignment submitted is assessed and evaluated, and rewarded accordingly. The thorough work undertaken by our agronomist has enabled our growers to deliver increasingly outstanding grape harvests to the winery. Read less
