Agostinelli Barbera Agostinelli 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

Fairview is situated on the lower slopes of Mt. Paarl, which is more sheltered from the moderating maritime influence than nearby Stellenbosch. Fairview has been planted with vines since 1699. The property was bought by the grandfather of current owner, Charles Back, in 1937, and was subsequently run by his father, Cyril. Charles has run it for the past 25 years. Michele Agostinelli was an Italian prisoner of war who settled in South Africa managing vineyards and producing cheese as a sideline for the Italian Cape Town community. When Cyril acquired his first herd of goats in the early 1980’s, he asked Agostinelli to help him set up the cheesery. This wine is a partner to the Agostinelli Red (a blend of Italian varieties) and both are named after the indomitable Michele Agostinelli. Vibrant ruby red in colour, this vintage has aromas of aniseed and black cherry, with some vanilla tones. Rich and ripe but still fresh, it has lively summer berry fruit on the palate and a spicy finish.
