Adler Fels Pinot Noir, The Eagle Rock 2014

Winemaker's Notes:

The 2014 vintage in California was the third consecutive year of exceptional vintages. An initially dry winter was relieved by significant rain in early March. Plenty of high quality fruit was available for Aaron with which to experiment. His selection of grapes was followed by traditional viticulture and careful blending to create an expressive Pinot Noir.

Adler Fels Winery was founded in Sonoma Valley in 1979 by David and Ayn Coleman. The winery soon established itself as a producer of award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay from Sonoma County, especially Russian River Valley. Adler Fels later expanded our sourcing to include ultra-premium wine varietals from Napa Valley and other premier appellations throughout California. David Coleman was a true wine industry pioneer, developing innovations in production that would later become industry standards. David created the first gold foil label to be used on California wine bottles. He is also credited with inventing the adjustable top fermentation tank. In addition, David established the winery’s unique program of custom winemaking so our clients could contract bottle their own proprietary wine blends and brands. Adler Fels is now owned by the Adams Wine Group, a collection of premium wineries and wine-related businesses. The new leadership team is ensuring that the innovative and entrepreneurial tradition first established in 1979 continues at Adler Fels today. Read less

Ripe cherry, crushed violets and a hint of something savory on the nose, maybe with a touch of minerality and loads of sweet berry spice. A bit restrained on the palate, dry but with full fruit notes of cherry, strawberry and cranberry, herbal licorice and well integrated tar and zesty spice on the warm finish. Pleasant and nicely balanced.

Tasting Notes:

As winemaker Aaron Bader says, “Making good Pinot is both a physical and mental exercise. And then it's so darn delicious. It's sexy, luscious, with that sweet perfume, a hint of maple syrup, and lush fruit.” On this Pinot Noir a complex nose with notes of black olive, earthiness, cranberry and Bing cherry invite you in. The entry carries the fruit and earth notes along with an echo of black olive, a hint of white pepper, and a slight caramel oak flavor.
