Adler Fels Chardonnay the Eagle Rock 2015

Winemaker's Notes:

Vintage 2015 was again markedly early, but showing exceptional quality. Unseasonably cool spring weather lowered yields and contributed to smaller grape clusters. For this wine, Linda carefully selected the best small lots of Chardonnay from Monterey and the Russian River Valley. Through careful blending, Linda was able to craft a Chardonnay that is reflective of its premium origin and expressive of her style.

Adler Fels Winery was founded in Sonoma Valley in 1979 by David and Ayn Coleman. The winery soon established itself as a producer of award-winning Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürztraminer and Chardonnay from Sonoma County, especially Russian River Valley. Adler Fels later expanded our sourcing to include ultra-premium wine varietals from Napa Valley and other premier appellations throughout California. David Coleman was a true wine industry pioneer, developing innovations in production that would later become industry standards. David created the first gold foil label to be used on California wine bottles. He is also credited with inventing the adjustable top fermentation tank. In addition, David established the winery’s unique program of custom winemaking so our clients could contract bottle their own proprietary wine blends and brands. Adler Fels is now owned by the Adams Wine Group, a collection of premium wineries and wine-related businesses. The new leadership team is ensuring that the innovative and entrepreneurial tradition first established in 1979 continues at Adler Fels today. Read less

Apple cider and white peach, blossom and tangerine aromas on the nose. Pleasantly silky mouthfeel and a rich palate of oak spice, lemon curd, toasted almond, and fresh acidity through the mid palate. This has amazing fresh fruit and is clean and light through to the finish where a nicely integrated oak note lingers.

Lots of butter, some oak, and butterscotch. Full body, but the finish falls flat.

From vineyard; The wine was fermented in a mix of French and American oak barrels and was then aged for over eight months in barrel adding to the rich, round style of this Chardonnay. The nose exhibits layers of aromas including spiced apple, nutmeg, and creme brulee. On the palate, notes of butterscotch and oak spice are balanced by a hint of meyer lemon and minerality in the mid-palate. The finish shows toasty creme brulee notes. We had our 2010 vintage with a chicken roasted farfalle pasta dish with fresh broccoli, mushrooms and tomatoes. My first taste I detected oak followed by pineapple, apple, pear and some citrus. The aroma leaned towards apple to me which interestingly matches this vineyards description of spiced apple. Priced @ $14.99 at Total Wine this is a worthy purchase for those nights when a red just won't do. Great summer wine.

Tasting Notes:

“Personally, I strive to create balanced Chardonnays that are juicy and fruit-forward, with bright acidity and levels of depth and nuance. Subtlety is key for a well-made Chardonnay – a challenge I relish,” says winemaker Linda Trotta. This full-bodied and refreshing Chardonnay has hints of tropical fruit aromas, honeycomb, stone fruit and well-integrated oak. Balanced and rich on the palate, it is inviting and complex. The bright acidity makes it a delicious and food-friendly wine.
