One of Oregon's most innovative wineries has excelled at pioneering Pinot Gris in Oregon. Since 1972, owner David Adelsheim has been an advocate of western Oregon's exceptional growing climate. He has authored the Oregon wine labeling regulations, succesfully petitioned the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms for Willimaette Valley AVA, and his research is published in the Proceedings of the International Symposium on Cool Climate Viticulture and Oenology. Adelsheim Vineyards is and the winemaking process is gentle and minimal. Bordered on the west by the Coast Range Mountains and on the east by the foothills of the Cascade Mountain Range, the Williamette Valley is a mosaic of prairie, grasslands, and wooded hillsides. The vineyards are on the hillsides in the western part of the valley on the slopes of volcanic hills. The cool temperate climate of this region allows for gradual grape ripening, which allows for complex flavors, aromatics, and nuance.
Made from 100% Pinot Gris, this wine offers crisp, bright flavors. There are hints of apples, papayas, and pears with a balanced body, acidity and long finish. For textural richness, only 85% was in older neutral French oak barrels. This wine brings higher acidity and more delicate and complex flavors of European and Oregon wines.
