David Adelsheim first planted the grapes of northern Europe in Oregon’s Willamette Valley in 1972 because he believed that fine and distinctive wine could be created in the cool climate of this unknown place. As the industry advanced, he realized that this new region could only succeed if all its growers and winemakers aimed for the highest quality… and he led the collaborative charge to achieve that goal by writing Oregon’s labeling regulations, setting up the system for importing grapevine clones from Europe, and helping found most of the organizations and events that define the industry. Today a new generation of passionate Adelsheim staff continues the tradition of leadership of the Oregon industry in areas such as sustainability, marketing of brand Oregon, grape and wine research, and the ongoing evolution of wine style.  In our vineyards and winery, we merge traditional and modern techniques to craft wines that are elegant, complex, rich, age-worthy, yet consistently alluring. Quite elegant and smooth on the nose, this is fruit forward and approachable with notes of ripe black cherry, red licorice, bold cinnamon spice and a soft herbal note adding some complexity. Impressive balance on the palate with tart fruit character of ripe red currant, strawberry and lots of bright cherry, this is full and fresh and fruity with some good complexity towards the finish and a long finish that's nicely spiced.

Another translucent Pinot that makes you want to taste it. This has a touch of meatiness on the nose with lots of spicy porcini tones and notes of forest floor, flowers, and toasted oak over a dark base of cherry with hints of apricot. Absolutely silky in the mouth with nice acidity that may be a bit pronounced for some palates. The fruit is very crisp and fresh in the mouth and the tannins almost non-existent. This really develops lovely inner mouth perfume that is very well balanced by the fresh fruit. There are note of forest floor and earth with a subtle medicinal edge that leads to a medium length finish that really focuses on the red fruit. 88pts

Lush, racy red berry nose. Red and black raspberry, strawberry and light sage on the nose. On the palate, tangy raspberry and a streak of dark chocolate. Some blue fruit on the mid palate. Cedar. Good acid. Nice, lighter style. 90 pts. 11/17/12

Roses and red fruits dominate the nose, but there's also a touch of barnyard and toasty cinammon. Very juicy on the palate, with both floral and berry elements. Ample acidity on the finish.

Bright cherry fruit with a twinge of earthy funkiness. Big cherries, tea, and cedar in a medium bodied well balanced package that finishes with nice acidity and complexity.

Pours a bright ruby. Damp earth/barnyard and cherries on the nose. Plums, chocolate, and cedar on the palate - the finish and tannins are unimpressive at first, but get stronger and give the wine more elegance the longer it sits in the glass.

WA 91pts. - According to the Wine Advocate: There are 10,000 cases of the entry-level 2008 Pinot Noir Willamette Valley (70% from estate vineyards and 30% purchased) which was aged in 20% new oak for 10 months. Medium ruby red with a charming perfume of cedar, spice box, cherry, and raspberry, on the palate it is medium-bodied, elegant, and densely packed with savory fruit. It conceals enough ripe tannin to evolve for 1-2 years but can be enjoyed now. It will offer considerable pleasure over the next 6-8 years. Adelsheim Vineyards 2008 Pinot Noirs are uniformly outstanding as they were able to take advantage of the great fruit provided by the vintage. Winemaker Notes - With its broad array of origins and clones, this wine displays both red and black fruit aromas (cherries and raspberries), on the nose and the palate. In addition, one finds a light touch of brown spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, allspice).
