Achaval Ferrer Quimera Mendoza Argentina 2006
Member Review by lingprof:
I liked it, but it didn't stand out. My husband loved it. Maybe I'll like it better in a few years.

Acahval Ferrer in Mendoza has very quickly become a star, producing some of Argentina's finest red wines. Quimera is their Bordeaux style blend of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc from deep rooted vines grown at high altitude in very poor soil. Yields are kept to less than 1.5 tons per acre- fully four times less than your average grape yield. The wine is aged in 95% French Oak and 5% American oak and then bottled unfined and unfiltered. The Wine Advocate scored this wine 94 ponits and said "The 2006 Quimera reveals a similar luxurious personality, layers of flavor, and a finish that just won’t quit. This sensational wine can be enjoyed in its succulent youth but should still be going strong in 12-15 years." Very Limited!

This sensational wine can be enjoyed in its succulent youth but should still be going strong in 12-15 years. In a brief period of time, Achaval Ferrer has become one of Argentina’s benchmark wineries. A visit to the winery in April 2008 was eye-opening. They export 85% of their production, 40% to the USA. The newest releases will not disappoint.
