Reviews for 2007 Vintage
Pepper, bulky, masculine, powerful terpentine smell, woodsy and very tannic..alot of oomph
Terrific from first sip, sublime after a decant. Deep currant, cranberry, juicy. Clever blending of grape varietals that culminates in an extremely balanced and well structured product with elegant finish. My prediction? This wine will age well. But who will let it? Too yummy. If only it were a tad cheaper...sigh...

Full medium ruby. Aromas of crushed blackberry, licorice, chocolatey oak and clove oil. Supple, sweet and full, but with lively acidity giving excellent delineation to the fresh blackberry and spice flavors.
2007 Achaval Ferrer "Quimera" Malbec/Cab/Merlot Mendoza
Produced from 70 year old vines in the Medrano district of Mendoza, vines which yield a tiny 1 lb of fruit per plant, the newest release of Quimera is, as always, a well structured, beautiful example of restraint in this Bordeaux styled blend of Malbec, Cab and Merlot. Deep currant fruit as well as some red fruit aromas lead to a tightly structured palate, that is primary (i.e. the fruit is prominent) as well as tense and framed by not only the youthful tannins, but good acidity as well. This is serious wine for the cellar - either decant for a few hours and enjoy with a steak, or check back in a few years.
Rating: 91/100 - As reviewed by Wine Spectator on 07/31/2009.
