2007 Achaval Ferrer "Quimera" Malbec/Cab/Merlot Mendoza
Produced from 70 year old vines in the Medrano district of Mendoza, vines which yield a tiny 1 lb of fruit per plant, the newest release of Quimera is, as always, a well structured, beautiful example of restraint in this Bordeaux styled blend of Malbec, Cab and Merlot. Deep currant fruit as well as some red fruit aromas lead to a tightly structured palate, that is primary (i.e. the fruit is prominent) as well as tense and framed by not only the youthful tannins, but good acidity as well.
