Vivid violet color and almost opaque in the glass. This opens with intensely floral and tropical fruited notes and a touch of raw, black pepper studded bacon. A touch syrah like then a rush of freshly crushed wild raspberry greets the nose with an underlay of vanilla crème that is barely noticeable. In the mouth this is bright and vivid with blazing purity of fruit. Perhaps this lacks a touch of complexity but the wine feels very fine and energetic in the mouth with juicy acids and superbly polished tannins driving the wonderful berried fruit with a nuance of juniper spice. Finishes long and mouth cleansing with excellent clarity. 92pts

91 Points - Wine Spectator"Really vivid, with plum and fig notes laced with a bright violet hint. The lingering finish lets raspberry and pastis notes chime in. Fleshy and concentrated, but pure, with mouthwatering acidity. Drink now through 2010." (07/09)

Rich, with delicious raspberry and macerated currant fruit enlivened by a strong violet aroma and a piercing mineral streak. The long, dark, juicy finish is very vivid and racy.

Achaval Ferrer is a boutique winery, located in the province of Mendoza, Argentina. The winery makes limited amounts of red wines, aiming for the highest quality possible. More than a business, it is a dream, with the idea of joining friends from Argentina and Italy in the task of finding the expression in wine of a great and beautiful place. Winemaker: Roberto Cipresso, partner and winemaker of Achaval-Ferrer. Roberto is considered one of the most talented young Italian enologists by the specialized magazines and press. Vineyard Information: There are three vineyards: Gibson, Vega and Gonzalez Videla. Gibson: Lujan, 65 years, 3140 ft above sea level, 7.5 acres, 2200 per acre, gravel, well-drained Vega: La Consulta, 12 years, 3460 ft above sea level, 15 acres, 1600 per acre, sandy, some volcanic ash, very well drained. Gonzalez Videla: Medrano, 85 years, 2200 ft above sea level, 2600 per acre, heavier soil, some clay, component, traditional furrow irrigation. Rich, with delicious raspberry and macerated currant fruit enlivened by a strong violet aroma and piercing mineral streak. Long, dark, juicy finish is very vivid and racy. Drink now through 2009. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. -Wine Spectator
