Acacia Pinot Noir Carneros Winery Lake Vineyard 2006

Winemaker's Notes:

ABOUT THE WINE The myriad of dark fruit and floral notes in this Pinot Noir come from the cool, windy Los Carneros American Viticultural Area (AVA) in the southern reaches of Napa Valley. Satsuma plum, blackberry, red rose and violet notes weave through the enticing aromas, mingled with warm nuances of vanilla and toasted oak from barrel aging. Silky, elegant flavors echo the aromas, adding blueberry and plum to the rich fruit complexity. You’ll find this wine’s lush flavors, bright acidity and fine tannins are perfectly balanced to complement a broad range of foods, from grilled salmon and chicken, to lamb and wild mushrooms. To emphasize the unique character of each Pinot Noir clone in our vineyards, we conducted many small-lot fermentations. The wine’s flavor complexity was increased by beginning fermentation in stainless steel tanks and then completing the primary and malolactic fermentations in barrels. We aged the wine in barrels made by twenty of the best coopers for flavor diversity.

Light does come through the glass--makes me think this is a medium-bodied wine, something I would expect from a PN. Very fresh beryy-ish nose. Initial mouth sensation is pretty much what I expect from Pinot Noir--medium bodied, some bery-cherry flavor. Infortunate bitter sensation way in the back of my throat that really distracts from the pleasure of this wine. I like the wine until it gets back there. Now, that btterness may be the result of an atertaste of some sweets I had a while ago. US$18.99 at Cost+ in 2008. [5/28/12 Amemndment. Yup, the sweet aftertaste negatively affected me. With my meal (Surf 'n' Turf--Grilled Sirloin Steak with Grilled Lobster Tail) the bitter aftertaste disappeared and the wine was harmonious. I finished the bottle with a hamburger, last night, and it was fine.]

I have become a big fan of Pinots from Carneros and this is a good example of one. For a Pinot this wine was a little darker and had a heavier body to it. Cherry and blackberry on the nose. Tasted hints of black berry, black current, and slight hints of vanilla with a delicate background of oak. Finish was somewhat abrupt but overall this was a very decent Pinot Noir.

This is a good Pinot I wouldn't turn away. Don't mistake it for their mid-level Pinot which only has an "A" on the label without the crest. This Pinot has earthy flavors of blackberries, maybe some cassis and some spice in the finish. V.

Not your typical 'light' pinot noir. Earthy. I like it alot.

Wine Tasting NotesA lovely ruby red in color, the Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir offers deep, fragrant aromas of violets, black cherries, toasty oak and earth. This wine is soft yet lively on the palate, with rich flavors of Satsuma plum and minerals enhanced by a touch of oak. A well-balanced acidity accentuates the fine tannins which carry through to the long finish. Pair with richer pastas, wild mushroom risotto, grilled salmon and herb-crusted pork tenderloin.

Wine Tasting NotesThis wine is a deep ruby-purple color. The nose combines blackberry, plum, sweet cigar tobacco, hazelnut and earth with floral and rose notes. On the palate, the wine is rich and silky with flavors of ripe red fruit, wet earth and spice at mid-palate. The fine-grained tannins are luscious and broad, with balanced acids that lead to a long finish of fresh blackberries, cherry and vanilla.
