Since its founding in 1979, Acacia has been one of California's most prominent Pinot Noir producers, but under winemaker Michael Terrien, quality has been raised a notch or two. This wine is a blend of estate fruit, along with grapes purchased from eight different vineyards in Carneros. It is aged for nine months in a combination of French and Hungarian oak, with one-third new barrels.
Pretty full-bodied and rich for a Pinot, and dark, too. The flavors veer toward black cherries, coffee and spice, and are very dry. Fortunately it's a silky wine, with zesty acids. Drink now with rich fare, like pork tenderloin.
Ripe, vivid, grapey plum and blackberry flavors are pure and concentrated. The tannins are ripe and firm. Drink now through 2007.
Intense and vibrant, with a firm tannic backbone to the core of earthy blackberry and wild berry fruit. Tightens on the finish, with a hint of clove and cedary oak, at times flexing its muscles yet also offering concentration and depth. Drink now through 2009.
Lush, ripe fruit flavors followed by the characteristic Carneros cinnamon-clove spice, balsam fir, silky rose petal texture and long-lasting flavors.
Dry and savory, with black cherry, herb and sage flavors, ending with drying tannins and a hint of anise and black olive. Drink now through 2011.
This wine displays perfectly the balance between ripeness and fine structure. Its deep ruby color is the first inclination of the power that this wine can carry. A deep black cherry aroma intermingles with subtle cassis, blackberry, roasted meat, wet earth and fresh herbaceous notes. Creamy and mouthfilling on palate entry, it finishes strong with tar and red cherry. Enjoy this wine with just about any meal.
