Somewhat murky in the glass. Very light nose with some mushroomy thing going on, there. Very pleasant initial taste that includes noticeable fruit--cherry, maybe, some raspberry, and maybe the tartness makes me think lemon--but it doesn't blow me away. A medium-bodied wine. Some unfortunate rancid hints in the finish, but I will have no trouble drinking this. US$16.99 at Total Wine in 2010.

Really nice cherry-compote flavors, sweet but with a bit of acidity. Heavy, ripe fruits with lingering oak.

Vintage: 2011 11/28/2012

Started over three decades ago, Acacia is a winery that helped to establish the Carneros region as one of the very best in California for Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Acacia produced one of the first Pinot Noirs from the legendary Winery Lake Vineyard and today sources a large portion of the grapes for this wine from Winery Lake. The other main source is their own Lone Tree Vineyard that surrounds the winery. (The "Lone Tree" is the acacia tree that gives the winery its name.) Grapes are hand sorted in bunches and then sorted again after de-stemming to insure that the only the best fruit is utilized. After a sort cold soak fermentation is started with all native yeast. Open top fermenters are used with gentle punch downs over an extended maceration. The wine is racked into primarily French oak barrels and aged for 7 months. Beautifully perfumed with bing cherry, strawberry and vanilla, the wine shows a supple but well-composed texture with flavors of black plum, black tea, cherry, raspberry, cherry and toast. A fine display, not only of Carneros character but of the quality and breeding this winery continues to produce. On Sale!

A lovely ruby red in color, the Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir offers deep, fragrant aromas of violets, black cherries, toasty oak and earth.

Acacia Carneros Pinot Noir exhibits seductive rose, teaberry and Satsuma plum aromas. Intriguingly layered red- and black-fruit flavors, complemented by delicate spice notes and buttressed by silky tannins, stay harmonious through the lingering finish.

Dry, earthy, herbal and dried currant and berry flavors fail to stand up to the drier leathery flavors.

Winemaker Notes - The 2009 Carneros Pinot Noir is rife with ripe plum, raspberry and blackberry aromas. A perfume of roses adds delicate flower nuances while some oak influence leaves notes of nuttiness. The tart acidity on the palate nicely balances out the medium body and fine tannins, and leaves the mouth with a bright raspberry flourish of a finish.

Ripe, vivid, grapey plum and blackberry flavors are pure and concentrated. The tannins are ripe and firm. Drink now through 2007.

Winemaker's Notes:

Acacia Vineyard's 2012 Pinot Noir, from the Carneros region, is 100% Pinot Noir that was hand harvested and aged 7 months in 90% French oak (20% new oak) and 10% Hungarian oak. With aromas of cherry, plum, spice and vanilla, good structure and fine tannins, this California red pairs well with salmon, chicken, pork, lamb, wild mushrooms and truffle dishes.
