Abadia Retuerta Tempranillo Blend Vino de la Tierra Castilla Y León Cuvée El Palomar 2005

Member Review by ricard:

This Tempranillo/Cabernet blend is sensational, and I would argue the best Palomar yet. I'd like to suggest it's a better, more satisfying overall experience than the much more expensive Valdebellón, so therefore a far better value. It has a wonderful, sensual, suggestive, inviting nose of brambly forest fruit, macadamia nut, cream, raisins and star anise. It's the best nose of the tasting. Displaying fabulous, pinpoint precision and remarkable purity, it opens up on the finish to reveal even more complexity – an intense, lip-smacking, sexy jamminess that leaves you wanting more and more. Great! 14% abv, 96 points.

Over 204 hectares of vineyards are spread out on hillsides ranging in altitude from a maximum 850 metres down to the southern bank of the Duero River. We have a wide variety of soils, with representations of most of the world’s best varieties, and state-of-the-art technology (meteorological stations, anti-frost towers, etc.) The rest of the estate is comprised of the winery, 12th century abbey, a farm, forest and bush.
