A To Z Wineworks Chardonnay Oregon 2013

Member Review by vin0vin0:

This is a really nice $12 Oregon chardonnay. There's a nice touch of apricot and orange creamsickle rounded out with some medium acidity and a medium finish.

A to Z Wineworks was started in 2002 by four friends, Oregon wine industry veterans, Deb Hatcher (Eyrie), Bill Hatcher (Domaine Drouhin Oregon), Sam Tannahill (Archery Summit) and Cheryl. Francis (Chehalem). The two couples worked in the Hatcher's kitchen to build the original blend honored by Food & Wine Magazine as the Best American Pinot Noir under $20. Recognition for their A to Z wines with dependable quality and great value continued and production grew. In 2006, the group welcomed another Oregon wine veteran, Michael Davies, as winemaker, and partnered with Gregg Popovich (Coach of the San Antonio Spurs) to buy REX HILL Vineyards and Winery (established in 1982). A to Z has worked with more than 100 vineyards across the state always offering assistance for sustainability certification that the group expects to be achieved within three years of partnering. Today, A to Z has two viticulturists on staff and uses biodynamic principles to farm all owned or long-leased vineyards. Diverse sourcing across the state mitigates regional weather difficulties and adds complexity and depth to the one wine of each variety that is blended in any vintage. Additionally, A to Z has more collective Oregon winemaking experience than any other winery, experience that can make a difference in difficult vintages. A to Z remains true to the dual mission of offer Aristocratic Wines at Democratic Prices blending one cuvee each vintage of Pinot Noir, Chardonny and Pinot Gris that deliver the Essence of Oregon. A commitment to excellence is matched by a belief in fair value and sustainability in business as well as farming and a drive to offer the highest quality for the best value. A to Z Oregon Pinot Noir has twice been named to Wine Spectator's Top 100 wines of the yar; A to Z Oregon Pinot Gris is a perennial Best Buy; and A to Z Oregon Chardonnay is America's Best Selling Oregon Chardonnay. A to Z is also a certified B Corporation. Read less

Had this again last evening. A pleasant and solid no oak Chardonnay. 13% alcohol. Nice Mineral start then some apricot & kiwi and surprisingly, a sort of very soft vanilla chocolate finish. Smooth and liquid feel in the mouth and a pale gold color. Pretty darn good.

Very nice Oregon chardonnay. Light, crisp and clean with no oak very little if any malo. This has lemon curd, white pepper, good acidity all balanced on a citrus frame.

Harsh. Maybe ok for cooking, but not a great drink.

Fine chard, exceptional taste of pear on the mid palate, bit onthe semi-sweet side and for the price, I'm off to the store for more. This is Oregon country chardonnay

Vivid gold with green highlights. Aromatics of pear, green apple, quince, apple blossom, lime, tangerine, talc and wet stone minerality evolve to include honey, butter, nutmeg and white chocolate. In the mouth, the wine is gorgeous. The ripeness and richness of the fruit are perfectly balanced by the beautiful acidity. Concentrated and succulent with a long, clean finish, it will drink wonderfully over the next two years.

A perfect example of cool-climate Chardonnay andmdash; this is one white that will go with almost anything. Subtle oak, deft acidity and a creamy blend of apple fruit and nutmeg spice make this extremely palate-engaging. A to Z is known primarily for its excellent and affordable Pinot Noir, so this Chardonnay is a very pleasant surprise.

Light and tangy, with pretty tangerine-accented apple and cream flavors, lingering nicely on the finish. Drink now.

It's quite the success story: This Chardonnay came about through a partnership of the two families that founded A to Z in 2001 - and A to Z is now the fastest-growing winery in the Willamette Valley. Fermented and aged mainly in stainless steel, this white wine has a bright, crisp character.

Light and appealing for its peach and melon aromas and flavors, finishing with refreshing acidity. Drink now.

Impressively bright for the price, this wine's lemon flavors and leesy scents have an angular, high-toned acidity. It is ideal to chill for cocktail hour.
