Food Pairings for A To Z Pinot Noir
Nice nose, a little thin for a Pinot Noir from Willamette Valley. The finish had a nice berry flavor, but short. I had hoped for better. 2008 was an awesome year for Pinot Noir in Willamette Valley, but this wins misses the mark. Reasonable bargain at $15 from Safeway (with 6 pack discount). I will not buy again.
A little bit weak but nice aroma and taste
It's a substandard wine, priced between $15-18 a bottle most places, it would be overpriced at $10. It's also screw top, so if you enjoy a light hint of savory aluminum, this wine's for you.
Appearance: ruby. Nose: medium intensity, youthful, red cherry, vegetal, hint of mushroom. Palate: Medium acidity and tannins. Well balanced. Black and red cherry, earthy - surprisingly bold and medium/full bodied. Lengthy finish. Overall very good quality, ready to drink.

It's one thing to make an outstanding Pinot Noir from a few acres and charge a lot for it. It's quite another to bottle more than 60,000 cases at $20, but that's exactly what A to Z Wineworks achieved in the magical 2008 vintage. The nègociant winery, co-founded in 2002 by Bill and Debra Hatcher, winemakers Sam Tanahill and Cheryl Francis, has consistently over-delivered on quality at moderate prices.
Economy of scale doesn't always work with a finicky grape such as Pinot Noir, but winemaker Sam Tannahill has a deft touch with the kind of delicate blending required to make thousands of cases of an affordable Pinot Noir that can hold its own with versions that cost two to three times as much. More than 30 different vineyards contributed to this wine, from every part of the state with Pinot vines. But instead of homogenizing the flavors, Tannahill emphasized distinctive high points of red berry and cherry flavor that balance immaculately with the fine structure. 62,954 cases.
Bright red. Initially reduced nose opens to display red berry and cracked pepper scents, plus a subtle note of dried rose. Light-bodied, tangy raspberry and cherry skin flavors are firmed by bright acidity and offer good straightforward appeal. Finishes slightly tart, leaving white pepper and bitter cherry notes behind.
Vivid red. Blackberry, cherry and peppery herbs on the nose. Sappy, spicy dark fruit flavors show good energy and focus but could use a bit more flesh. Finishes firm and tangy, with modest length.
Light and lively, a bit tight but graceful, glowing with boysenberry and plum fruit that's shaded with cedar and cream notes. The finish doesn't quit. Drink now through 2014.
