A. Rafanelli Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley 2003

Member Review by SDWineLover13:

HOLY SHIT! We bought this 2003 A. Raf Zin in March of 2006. We cellared it for 2 years and finally cracked it. This...is...phenomenal. Especially for a zin. Most Zins start to become a little on the heavy fruit forward side, but this smoothed out so outstandingly. This starts to borderline a touch of Cab and Syrah. OK...lots of raspberry on the nose including some Frambois with some herby hints to it. Great Flavors of raspberry, a touch of raisin and some of that smooth cab quality with beautiful tannins.

The Rafanelli family is now in its fourth generation of growing grapes and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley. Our winery is small and family operated. Our focus has always been on quality over quantity. At A. Rafanelli Winery, we work hard at maintaining a tradition of producing premium grapes and handcrafting world class wines. We believe that the wines are first made in the vineyard and then achieve their maximum potential through traditional winemaking practices such as open top fermentation and non-filtration. Our quaint and rustic winery sits on a knoll overlooking the scenic Dry Creek Valley and is surrounded by some of our terraced hillside vineyards. The winery consistently specializes in some of the finest Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Our wines are not available in any retail outlets, they can only be purchased at the winery. Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Dark ruby in color, the nose is strong without being overpowering, jammy raspberry and strawberry flavors come through first, with a slight peppery finish. Could do well with cellaring for another 3-5 years.
