A. Rafanelli Cabernet Sauvignon Dry Creek Valley Terrace Select 1998

Member Review by Cab Lovers:

We first met the 1998 Rafanelli Cabernet Sauvignon at Chez Panisse in Berkeley. It was in the days when it wasn't available in wine shops, you had to be a food establishment to buy their wine without going directly to their door. It was also in the days before easy Internet access and we had to do some major phone and word-of-mouth research to find the winery, arriving at their door about a half hour after they had closed and locked up for the weekend. Recently, we were pleased to find they are selling through select wine merchants, and though we were not able to find the 1998 locally, we have had the 2003 and 2004 which were almost as amazing. We love their Cab for its full, complex, deep, fruity flavor and creamy finish.

The Rafanelli family is now in its fourth generation of growing grapes and making wine in the Dry Creek Valley. Our winery is small and family operated. Our focus has always been on quality over quantity. At A. Rafanelli Winery, we work hard at maintaining a tradition of producing premium grapes and handcrafting world class wines. We believe that the wines are first made in the vineyard and then achieve their maximum potential through traditional winemaking practices such as open top fermentation and non-filtration. Our quaint and rustic winery sits on a knoll overlooking the scenic Dry Creek Valley and is surrounded by some of our terraced hillside vineyards. The winery consistently specializes in some of the finest Zinfandel, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot. Our wines are not available in any retail outlets, they can only be purchased at the winery.
