The Ladera Sagrada A Portela Mencia is made from 35 year old Mencia vines in the Valdeorras. Bright blue fruit character balanced by stoney minerality and a luscious finish.

Made from 100% Mencía (which is NOT Cabernet Franc, though it might taste just like it is), this medium-bodied red from Spain is one of the best wines to bring to someone’s house for dinner when you don’t know what they like or what they’re serving, because it goes well with just about everything. Bright cherry fruit notes are prominent, with faint herbal influences and black spices on the finish. Food pairing: pasta, poultry, seafood Flavor type: fruit-forward Body type: medium Finish: elegant

From vineyards planted in pure granite soils, the 2011 A Portela is an amazing, unoaked, naturally made 100% Mencia. Opulently styled with copious notes of blueberry liqueur, crushed rocks, spring flowers and a hint of camphor, it exhibits fabulous intensity, a medium to full-bodied mouthfeel, superb ripeness and an ethereal lightness in spite of its intensity and richness. This stunning effort from Jose Luis Murcia should be drunk over the next 5–10 years.
