A.P. Vin Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast Kanzler Vineyard 2007

Member Review by Eric Guido:

Luminescent Ruby red color with a warm inviting nose of Blackberry fruit and forest floor. Dig deeper and you find cherry, oak and a tiny hint of manure. Elegant and full bodied. Mouth coating and ever expanding on the mid palette with cherry cough drops and a long cinnamon, chocolaty finish. This pinot comes across and balanced and leaves a lasting impression. I will buy from this producer again and again and again.

Wow, this was amazing. Really memorable. Another great 2007 Sonoma PN, should be a great vintage.

Opened for an hour before tasting. Nose showed rich raspberry, dusty dried flowers and some smoky bacon. On the palate sweet blackberry fruit, plum sauce and orange zest with hints of clove and allspice. Nice medium long finish. Over the last six months the concentration has backed off a bit and left a more elegant wine but with less stuffing. Overall, this bottle has taken a small step down from my past experience.

Having been opened for an hour before tasting, showed rich raspberry, dusty dried flowers and some smoky bacon on the nose, which intermingled beautifully with the woodsy rosemary aromas from a roast chicken. On the palate it showed sweet blackberry fruit, plum sauce and orange zest with hints of clove and allspice. Not only was this a perfect wine for the dinner before us, but it would be a showstopper with a Thanksgiving turkey. The last time I sampled this 2007 was immediately after its release, and the fruit was powerful and concentrated, but over the last six months the concentration has backed off a bit, making this a wonderful candidate for food pairing and leaving me with an impression of pure elegance.

Intense, spicy and vibrant, with a tight minerally core of black cherry and berry fruit that fans out nicely, keeping the full-bodied flavors well-centered. Complex and concentrated, with a nice loamy earth aftertaste. Drink now through 2014.
