A Mano Negroamaro 2013

Winemaker's Notes:

A Mano Primitivo was first made in 1998. Mark Shannon and Elvezia Sbalchiero, the duo behind A Mano, have worked in the wine business for most of their lives. Elvezia is a northern Italian winemarketing expert and Mark is a Californian winemaker. They knew right from the start that they wanted to make wine from native Puglian grape varieties. For the first ten years of their time in Puglia, they concentrated on Primitivo until summer 2007 when they found a source of Negroamaro grapes whose quality is high enough for the A Mano range. The Negroamaro grapes for this wine are grown in an 11 hectare vineyard, in the heart of Salice Salentino. The vines are 15 years old and have reached just the right balance of production. Tremendous depth of lack/red colour, with youthful purple lights. On the nose, the Negroamaro has a perfume of wild roses and dark cherries giving way to a rich, powerful structure, with dark chocolate cherry fruit characters, robust but nicely balanced tannins and good depth.
